word of the day

- Is "wouldn't've" grammatically correct?
- While "wouldn't've" is technically correct, I feel like double contractions are very colloquial ...
- Makes me wonder if colloquially, "I would not have" can be further condensed into "I'dn't've" ... Pronunciation? "I-din-tif".
- I don't think it can. At least one of those words has to carry the stress, and stressed words are not contracted.
- Eye-din-tif can be stressed. I don't think English has stress rules to forbid this.
- "I'dn't've" is a little bit of a stretch, but Wikitionary recognises it and it has several thousand Google hits.
- Damn... I was halfly writing it intended as a joke.
